Components Test Laboratory III was constructed in the late 1950s in order to perform component testing of turbopumps, gas generators, and small scale engines including reaction control thrusters at altitude conditions. In the 1970s, one of its four test modules was modified for high energy chemical laser testing. The laser program used an ejector system requiring 1000 pounds per second steam flow provided by two LOX/Alcohol steam generators using Atlas sustainer engine injectors. The programs supported at this facility included Apollo, Thor, Atlas, Saturn-V, J-2 experimental X-10, Gemini, and high energy laser development.
